Balasaheb Keshav Thackeray popularly known as Bal Thackeray is a powerful political leader of Maharashtra.  Mumbai people loved Bal Thackeray as he fought for their rights.  He was fondly called ‘Tiger of Maharashtra’. Bal Thackeray is died on 17th November, 2012 at 3.30 pm.

  • Bal Thackeray was born on23rd January, 1926.  He was born in Pune, Maharashtra.
  • His father was Keshav Sitaram Thackeray who was a social activist.
  • Bal Thackeray began his career as a cartoonist in Free Press Journal
  • He launched Marmik weekly in the year 1960.
  • Bal Thackeray launched Shiv Sena party on 19th June, 1966.
  • Shiv Sena Party’s main objective was to fight for the rights of Maharashtra people.
  • BJP-Shiv Sena alliance won the Assembly Elections in the year 1995 and formed the government.
  • During the four year rule of BJP-Shiv Sena rule, Bal Thackeray controlled the politics as a remote control.
  • In the year 1999 Bal Thackeray was banned from either voting or contesting in the elections.  This ban was lifted after six years.
  • Thackeray fought for the Hindu people.  he was a staunch Hindu and he called all Hindus must unite to fight the attacks on their religion and culture.
  • Bal Thackeray openly opposed migrants to Mumbai and also non-Hindus.
  • He began ‘Maharashtra is for Maharashtrians’ campaign.
