Association
of Exploration Geophysicists organized its 30th Annual Convention
and Seminar on Exploration Geophysics during 16-19 Novemberm
2005 at Pune, India. The Special theme of this seminar was
What lies under the Deccan Trap?. The seminar was sponsored and
Co-Sponsored by by Oil & Natural Gas Corporation Ltd.,Oil India Ltd.,
Directorate General of Hydrocarbons, and Reliance Industries Ltd., and
Supported by Gas Authority of India Ltd., De Beers,GeologicalSurvey of India
and CSIR and also supported by many government and private organisations
engaged in geoscientific activities in India. This seminar is of immense value
to professional geoscientists, industrial planners, investors, engineering
geologists and research scholars of geosciences. The delegates at the seminar
shared a comprehensive review of the geological, geophysical, engineering and
educational challenges. A number of renowned geoscientists from India and
abroad presented state of art practices in geosciences. This was a unique
opportunity to enjoy a broad cross-section of geology, geophysics and related
technology in the technical sessions, poster sessions, exhibition and field
trips.
Coinciding
with the seminar, the Department of Science and Technology (DST), New Delhi
sponsored one-day Workshop on Earthquake Seismology, Tsunamis
and related studies was organised on 18th
November, 2005. The aim of the workshop is to bring together
scientists from different organizations engaged in seismological and related
studies.

An impressive
exhibition of geophysical and allied instruments and state of art practices was
inaugurated on 17th November, 2005, by Shri Prithviraj
Chavan, Hon’ble Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, New Delhi
has Inaugurated the Seminar and Exhibition.
The exhibition enables delegates to gain a comprehensive overview of the products and services available as well as an
opportunity to discuss the latest developments with representatives from the
major companies serving the needs of the exploration industry. Exhibits will
span all sectors of the exploration industry, from minerals and petroleum to
engineering and the environment. A wide range of publications of AEG and other
institutions were also exhibited. The Unit space available for the exhibitor is
2m x 2m and the cost of the unit is Rs. 40,000/- (US$ 1000 for foreign
exhibitors). Further details can be obtained from the AEG Secretariat.
The Best Exhibitor Award was presented to Geological Survey of India. for their excellent display.
